With the global commitment to transition away from fossil fuels, green hydrogen as a sustainable carrier of green energy and molecules for decarbonization is gaining increasing interest in the Central Asian and Caucasus region, and in Europe. All regions are considering green hydrogen to address the challenges of climate change, energy security, and economic growth in the upcoming years and decades. While Europe is planning to become an importer of green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) products, the ambitions to produce and utilize green hydrogen and PtX products in the Central Asian and Caucasus region are rising, considering it as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels for decarbonizing domestic economies and exporting.

The Hydrogen Diplomacy Office Astana, serving as an international exchange platform between Kazakhstan & Germany around the topic of green hydrogen, organised this event in cooperation with the European Union´s “Sustainable Energy Connectivity in Central Asia (SECCA)” project to expand the international dialogue for a stronger cooperation and sustainable development within and between both regions. With the expected transformation of the international energy market and the establishment of new supply chains, a strong alignment on a regional level will play an important role. Considering both exports and domestic use of green hydrogen, the event aimed at facilitating a common understanding of synergy potentials and challenges for regional cooperation in the field of green hydrogen and decarbonization and to enhance awareness about the significance and benefits of sustainable energy, as well as the relationship between energy and climate change.

The SECCA project was involved in the organisation of the event as part of the EU-Kazakhstan Sustainable Energy Days campaign.
