Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

The European Union is committed to strengthening equality and inclusion in all fields of EU activity.  Energy, gender and social inclusion are closely interconnected in many respects and manners. This nexus at the intersection of Sustainable Development Goal 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” and Sustainable Development Goal 7 “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” has significant social, environmental and governance implications.

The present section provides an overview of the EU policies, which mainstream and promote gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in the energy sector, as well as of some examples of practices implemented at the EU and Member State levels:
